We understand that parting ways with an animal can be especially difficult and we're committed to working with you to ensure the best possible solution for you and your pet. Your appointment will take approximately minutes and will include a health exam and behavior evaluation of your pet. After we've gathered information about your pet and the animal exam and evaluation are completed, oc discuss your options with you so you can make the best decision for your pet.
Please note that Animal Humane Society is an open-admission organization that accepts all animals. As a result, animals deemed untreatable or unhealthy may not be candidates for adoptionand humane euthanasia may be considered in some cases. In order to ensure resources are ready and available when txke pet arrives, Animal Humane Society requires a scheduled surrender appointment.
Without an appointment process, we would have no control over the number of pets that come into our care each day, and our ability to provide the best possible care for each animal would be hindered. If you don't want to schedule an appointment, we will refer you to other rescues and shelters or provide rehoming information to help you rehome your pet yourself. Animal Humane Society provides services for cats, dogs, rabbits, domestic rodents rats, mice gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, degusferrets, hedgehogs, and small birds.
We do not accept exotic pets such as reptiles, large birds like cockatoos and amazons or livestock such as chickens, pigs, and goats. Pwt you have an exotic pet or livestock, we can refer you to a rescue or other resource that might be able to help.

Last year, more than 94 percent of the animals in our care were placed in homes, reunited with owners, or released to other animal welfare organizations. AHS has not euthanized a healthy animal for any reason sinceand there is no time limit for animals in our care. Stand in the center of the group and call out a command like ‘Feed your pet.’ Once the trainer (the teacher) gives the command, each student must find the object on the floor that goes with the command. For example, upon hearing ‘Walk your pet’ the child should find the dog shoe, bring it to you, and pretend to walk his or her pet.
This lesson plan will use a short game to get kids moving and to help stress these four points. This pet lesson works nicely with a study about animals. If possible, purchase a small class pet, such a hamster or guinea pig. Create a journal of directions for caring for the pet. Allow students to sign up to take the class pet home for the weekends.

Explain to the kids that they will be playing a game about caring for pets. Have the kids stand up and spread out for this exercise. Once all the children have found the appropriate object, call out a new command. Gather students back into a group circle and ask them what they learned about caring for pets from the story and game. Was each student able to identify the correct items used for each command? Provide students a piece of paper and with pictures of pets and foods they typically eat.
Have each of them create a collage using a favorite pet and the kinds of food that pet likes to eat. When the activity is complete, ask the children to share their work and talk about their collages.
